Update January 1, 2007

On November 21st I drove the car to Blue Moon Auotomotive to make some baseline pulls on their DynoJet chassis dyno. My friend Will shot the vid. We made three pulls, changing the jets in the carb on the second pull, then spraying with 73 jets in the plate. I had set the tuneup safe for this pull and it showed in the results, but it's all about learning what the car likes, I learned from the experience, and it showed in the results at the track on the Dec. 9th. Dead Hookers II event. HERE is a video of the 10.23 nitrous pass I made.

Did I say "maybe" run tens in the winter N/A ?? How about 10.66 @ 125 MPH. Yeah that's the ticket. Ran a 10.08 @ 130 on the bottle too. All that hard work is finally starting to pay off. I am going again on February 2nd to Need2Speed.com's Dead Hookers III event. The goal for this event is to tune the suspension and make a clean 9 second pass. Thanks to Don Bitler and his family for the ride and help, having a crew is so much easier than doing everything by yourself.

Update August 26, 2006

On Aug. 12th need2speed.com hosted an event at BMP ,
"
Dead Hookers" track day", here is a link, for more information, pics, and video. This was my second trip to the quarter mile track with this engine and ran well in all five runs. It was really hot with 2500-3000 feet DA, the only problem was the alternator/water pump belt was turning over and came off on one pass, I purshased an Alan GroveComponents mid mount alt. bracket, and had a friend powder coat it black , some pics are below. Here is a video. (Right click, save as please) With the belt on I ran a best of 11.43 @ 117.93, the pass it flew off was an 11.25 @ 120.03, I will be getting a w/p drive in the future, that could free up enough power to maybe run 10's in the winter. YAY ??

I made two good bottle runs, a 10.50 @ 127.35 and a 10.56 @ 127.19. I changed the fuel pressure on the second run from 6 psi. to 5 3/4 psi and was using 73 jets on both sides of the plate, timing was 33 degrees on the gas, 38 N/A. First two passes shift light was 6200, after that was 6400, new Auto Meter shift light is more accurate with the chips instead of dial. I think the car needs a bit more fuel, and am planning a dyno session before next time out. The car was just more then one tenth off best in the 1/8, with a 7.30 N/A. All in all a good day despite the heat, and ruining three brand new belts at $12 a piece, stupid unnecessary expences. I got new valve covers and had my air cleaner powder coated, I think it looks much better.Thank's to Derrick for the ride down ect...

Update Dec. 17, 2004

I have been out two more times to Sunshine, was having a high RPM miss, which I traced to bad spark plugs. I didn't think they looked that bad really, but I guess they were shot. It's all good now. On Dec. 8th I got two good runs trying to trace the miss, and the best was a 7.19 @ 97, the other was a 7.25 @ 97 with the slower ET cause by slower 60'. Nitrous did not work so I went again on the 15th after more changes to the N20 tuneup and a little testing down the street. It works now. Spraying a 175 HP shot car ran a 6.58 @ 103 with a 1.458 60'. Next pass had a 1.460 60' but car got crocked and moved towards wall and had to lift. Last pass was a 6.70 @ 103 with 1.56 60' and sliding around some. So far so good, well... except for excessive twist, but it's an "A" body thing. LOL I'll be getting an air bag for the pass. side to keep the fender off the tire until I get the anti roll bar installed. Hopefully that will calm it down some. I got video of all the runs and the launch pic below is from the tv screen until I can get the VHS transferred.

Update Oct. 25,2004

Had my lung transplant May 3rd, feeling good. Been out twice in past two months. Ran a best of 7.21 @ 97 at Sunshine Dragstrip (1/8 mi.) 11.52 @ 116 at Bradenton on motor. Pics of time slips below. Updates to car are NOS Pro two stage plate, fuel system routing, Morrison "No-Hop" bars, adjustable upper control arms, X Brace, and exhaust. Click thumbnails below to enlarge. Next time out I will be testing the N20 and a Holley HP 1000 (pictured).

Here's my Chevelle, this taken in August of 2000 just after the new 468 was installed

  • Edelbrock Victor Jr. 454 O Intake (Ported)
  • Pro-Systems 850 Carb.
  • 2" Hooker Headers
  • 3" Ex. W/ Flowmasters

The car has a TH 400 with reverse pattern Turbo Action valve body, and Ameritorque converter. The rear has a 4:10 Richmond gear with Moser spool and axles. I also had Buick ends installed, so I would not have to fool with those damn c-clip eliminators.

I have been out twice with the new motor, the first time out went badly as I had ignition problems which were traced to a bad MSD chip. There were no problems the second time out, with several passes in the low 7.30's, and a best run of 7.23 @ 94 mph (with borrowed Holley HP series by McLendon Racing, 1000+cfm). So far so good. The goal is to get in the 10's on hp and spray 300 to perhaps as much as 400 hp N20, depending on how the engine responds to it. I'll be updating when there is news to tell.
